Prof. Martin Maria Krüger
After almost 9 years, Prof. Martin Maria Krüger stepped down as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Callias Foundation at the beginning of the year - at the end of his term of office as President of the German Music Council. We remain in grateful memory and recognition of his very strong sign of open trust and clear resonance.
It was certainly not always easy, as our idea, with all its openness to dichotomies and contradictions of the various readings of the respective 'Silk Roads', clearly differs from other approaches. Over the years, he has been very supportive of our position that an independently questioning, critical attitude should be part of the essence and characteristic of a European approach.
I particularly remember his strong and unquestioning support during the constituent meeting of the Advisory Board in Berlin and a strategy meeting in 2020, when external doubts about the viability of our idea seemed to become overwhelming.
Throughout the years, Prof. Krüger has stood like a rock by the European, human and musical core of the idea, the efforts to create appropriate and fair conditions and was simply open to a development process in which no one could foresee where it would lead us together.
We thank him from the bottom of our hearts for many years of trustful cooperation and his unshakeable belief in the SRSO & the SRCB / the European Silk Road and Callias Foundation.
